City of Mississauga Real Estate ProfileJan. 15, 2005: City of Mississauga Considered Canada's sixth largest city, Mississauga is quickly becoming a world-class metropolis. With a population of over 680,000, Mississauga is attracting people from all over the world, making it a multicultural place to live. Also considered Canada's safest city, it is not hard to see why Mississauga is home to 14,000 new residents annually. For many people, Mississauga offers the best of both worlds: close proximity to Toronto without the expense of the big city. It is a great place to raise a family, and it offers a lot of opportunities for business. The local government is encouraging and supportive of companies starting up. Mississauga offers easy access to national and local markets with plenty of land and buildings available to start one's own business. Presently there are over 22,000 businesses with over 400,000 employees in the city. Fifty-seven of Fortune 500 Canadian head offices are in Mississauga, along with 1,500 multinational firms. Strategically located companies have access to over 2.9 million employees within the Greater Mississauga/Toronto Area. As well, nine universities and 10 colleges are within commuting distance. Canada's largest airport, Lester B. Pearson, is in the heart of the city. Also, being on Lake Ontario, Mississauga is linked to the St. Lawrence Seaway which allows direct access to the Atlantic Ocean and other lake ports. Of course, Mississauga's proximity to the province's major highways, its well-kept roads and efficient public transit system benefits both businesses and residents alike. Buses, subways and commuter trains allow people to travel hassle-free around Mississauga and surrounding cities. Families looking to move into the area have no shortage of choices when it comes to buying a place to live. Houses, townhouses and condominiums are appealing because of much lower property taxes compared to bigger cities. Lease rates and land prices are competitive as well. Mississauga offers excellent schools as well as top-notch health and medical services, two big concerns for families moving into a new area. The city boasts a wide range of sports, leisure and arts facilities. There are over 400 parks and natural settings to be discovered in the midst of the concrete, as well as an impressive bustling waterfront. There are charming historic sections in Mississauga, as well as world-class art and theatre at places like the Living Arts Centre. The things to do and experience in this city are many, and everyone is sure to find something that appeals to them. For example, it is easy to be impressed by the Rhododendron Garden. It features hybrid Rhododendrons in bloom from May to June, as well as other beautiful flowers and plants. For the avid shopper there is Square One, one of Ontario's largest shopping malls. Mississauga hosts many events like its annual Santa Claus Parade. In December 2004, the city hosted the Skate Canada Eastern and Western Challenge at the Hershey Centre. And of course, one can't forget the Ice Dogs, Mississauga's major junior hockey team. With so much to see and do, and so much to offer, who wouldn't want to live in the beautiful city of Mississauga! |
